I definitely had some curiosity in me! I was quite hands-on and creative. Art was by far my favourite subject at school and early on that’s where I found I could express myself the most.
I wasn’t particularly good at maths or physics but my folks encouraged me towards a more ‘traditional’ profession like engineering, law or medicine. So I did my undergraduate degree in mechanical design, materials and manufacturing engineering – but to be honest I was more excited about playing basketball at Nottingham!
It was only later, during my Master’s at the Royal College of Art, when I realised the potential of engineering.
